ALBISETTIAN PSYCHOSPIRITUAL ANALYSIS – SUFFERING

The problem of suffering, especially of those unjustly treated and of the innocent often continues to be incomprehensible to thinking men. And it becomes an obstacle, a sometimes insurmountable one, to belief in God.
Regarding this, there are several possible stances.
There’s that of the acceptance of God’s will, imagining that a motive exists, unknown to the person in question, but known to God. Then, things being the way they are, one can only resign oneself and take the way of critical, self-analysis, trying to discover his hidden guilt as motive.
Then there’s the opposite stance – that of non-believers. I know many persons who, in the face of God’s silence before the suffering of the oppressed and of the innocent, abandon their Christian faith.
Finally there’s a third way, which I prefer, and which is the benchmark of my own thought and underlies all my works. I call it Albisettian Psychospirituality: A person lives through suffering, trusting it to be a place of psychospiritual surprise, in which God can be discovered and understood – a place of radical diversity and of the transcendence of God.
To live through suffering is not easy, it requires humility, an openness to seeming strangeness and contradiction, and a refusal to manipulate and control it.

SUGGESTIONS TO DEEPEN UNDERSTANDING OF ALBISETTIAN PSYCHOSPIRITUALITY

The Biblical book of Job provides an exhaustive response to suffering, so I strongly advise reading it. Besides that, the following may also be of help:
(James 5:10,11) “For your example, brothers, in patiently putting up with persecution, take the prophets who spoke in the Lord’s name; remember it is those who had perseverance that we say are the blessed ones. You have heard of the perseverance of Job and understood the Lord’s purpose, realizing that the Lord is kind and compassionate.”

-Acceptance of God’s will and self-analysis accompanied by prayer
(Philippians 4:5-7) “The Lord is near. Never worry about anything; but tell God all your desires of every kind in prayer and petition shot through with gratitude, and the peace of God which is beyond our understanding will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.”
(Isaiah 53:10) “It was Yahweh’s good pleasure to crush him with pain; if he gives his life as a sin offering, he will see his offspring and prolong his life, and through him Yahweh’s good pleasure will be done.”
(Psalm 119:105) “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.”
(2 Timothy 3:16) “All scripture is inspired by God and useful for refuting error, for guiding people’s lives and teaching them to be upright.”
(Galatians 5:13) “After all, brothers, you were called to be free; do not use your freedom as an opening for self-indulgence,…”
(James 1:14, 15) “Everyone is put to the test by being attracted and seduced by that person’s own wrong desire. Then the desire conceives and gives birth to sin, and when sin reaches full growth, it gives birth to death.”
