CIVILIZATION OF CHILDREN

For the culture we live in, insensitive to the wonder of mystery, everything that exists is reduced to consumable material. Reality is lived and measured in relationship to our needs. It is a disrespectful, greedy and manipulative relationship, similar to the one a child in its narcissistic phase has with its various love objects. These love objects, be they represented by the mother, father, brother, toy or whatever other thing, don’t have value per se, but are perceived in function of the child’s ego. Such a relationship harms not only things –because they are manipulated and emptied- but above all us, in that we become incapable of entering into a qualitatively different and richer relationship with the world around us.
