The resignation of Benedict XVI, which I reported in real time on Twitter (@Albisetti), confirmed a choice I made, in my small world, to interrupt my work as a successful psychotherapist to dedicate myself wholly to silence, isolation, meditation, prayer and to witness my faith with books. I write two books a year, published by the Paulines in Italy. His resignation confirmed what I’ve been saying and writing for the past 25 years: The relationship with God is personal and it takes place inside the hearts of each of us. The meaning of limits. Humility. The abandonment of power and privileges. Wanting to know we have to die. The great interior freedom. Courage. The journey of spiritual awareness. Acceptance of the responsibility of sickness and old age. The preparation for death in silence and prayer, preparation for a journey to another dimension. Following with coherence the spirit that speaks continuously to our hearts. Trusting completely in God’s plan, even going outside the customary formalism of the Church. Renouncing every appearance, every human assurance, trusting exclusively in the strength of the Holy Spirit. And I am convinced that this very powerful gesture of death–his resignation–will produce an intense wave of rebirth and vitality inside the Church, and most of all, in all human spirituality. Thank you Pope Ratzinger.

Infatti…in Quaresima dovremmo superare individualismi e rivalità….
