By “vocation” I don’t mean an exclusively religious vocation, even if the word “vocation” is predominantly used in that context. But there are times when we follow an ideal, a passion, a deep desire, an inclination of our souls, an overwhelming urge to do something. To respond to your vocation (your call) is to participate in the work of our universe’s ongoing creation. You find yourself fitting into the plan of a universal intelligence and wisdom – part of Providence’s plan. Every time you develop your talents, God is present. Each one of us is called to live freely and creatively his or her own unique self, unlike the animals and plants, which obey their instincts – automatic responses, pre-programmed into them by nature. Besides, I’ll say it again, whoever follows a vocation is the only one meant do it in that unique way. No one else is called to follow that exact same call in that exact same way.
