Yesterday a friend of mine thanked me for a sentence I’ve written in my numerous books published by the Paulines in Italy. I’d like to propose it for your Easter meditation: “Yes, the enemy is a great spiritual teacher. Having encountered the enemy, even at a high cost, is reason for profound gratitude.”

  On Monday April 25, I’m being interviewed by Annalisa Manduca and Lorenzo Opice on RAIUNO’s Ben Fatto show about my new book LA VITA, Fragility. I regard this symbolically as my humble Easter gift to those of you who follow me with affection.

  Meaningful human relationships are the ones that prepare us to face our greatest solitude, that teach us to become witnesses, and more aware…until we can do without all the meaningless relationships.

The Church as I intend it should seek the good of the last, the poor, the persecuted, and the marginalized – but these should be active, not passive receptors of destiny. They should fulfill only one condition: to have hearts free from the desire for possession or domination.
